The redevelopment of an Victorian walled garden into retirement apartments required a fitting landscape that respected the origins of the site and hold the memories of the retained walls and ice house but providing a therapeutic landscape for the residents.

Using the theme of the walls and integrating the retained walls into a the new scheme, a series of walled courtyards and gardens have been created that offer different types of activities.

Those courtyards facing the wider parkland and the new housing development (outside our site) are left to open to increase the developments connectivity and sense of inclusion in the wider community. The original icehouse gets a fitting landscaped setting and an opportunity for public access.
